Welcome.

The purpose of this wiki site is to create a searchable dedicated site for the people, places, events and other attributes that make up the poetry fabric of Arizona. This site had previously existed and was spammed to death several years ago, so this is it's rebirth. The site is maintained by Anthology, inc., a literary non profit based in Mesa, AZ.

Getting Started
The Wiki is organized in several categories, including but not limited to Poets, Venues, Events, Community, Performances, Media Releases (albums, etc.) and Poems. Using the search bar at the top is the easiest way to find what you are looking for.

Adding Content
Adding content can be done via email. You can send an email with the content your would like to add to content@azpoetrypedia.com. There is some information that would help us to make a more effective article. We cover that in the AZPoetryPedia Submission Format Article.

Managing Updates
Updates are managed by volunteers, so it may take some time for them to make the edit or addition you have submitted. Editors are nominated at the annual AZPoetryPedia.com Caucus, and approved by the Anthology, inc. Board of Directors. Editors may contact you regarding your submission.

As the longest running event of its kind in Arizona, the Tucson Poetry Festival (TPF) was founded in 1981 with the mission to celebrate, and expand the audience for, contemporary poetry. By inviting poets who represent the diverse and eclectic writing approaches of poetry today to read from their work, TPF has provided people with the opportunity to hear over 150 superb visiting poets in this unique annual experience. These voices represent some of the most celebrated poets of our time – Jimmy Santiago Baca, Robert Bly, Anna Castillo, Wanda Coleman, Russell Edson, Allen Ginsberg, Sam Hamill, Carolyn Kizer, Maxine Kumin, Sharon Olds, Alberto Rios, Sonia Sanchez, David Shapiro, Gary Snyder, and Claudia Rankine, among many others.

The Essenzaslam Poetry Slam was the longest running poetry slam in the Southwest. It was founded on November 3rd, 1994, by poet/organizer Bob Nelson. From 1994-2008, the slam made it's home in Essenza Coffeehouse, Mesa Arizona's oldest coffeehouse until it closed in July of 2008.

In August of 2008, the Show was supposed to move to Garden Grounds, a new coffeehouse founded less than 1/2 a mile from Essenza's current location. The venue never opened.
